My name is Joan and I live in Baltimore, Md. I am a retired Social worker and started collecting dolls when I turned 50. First it was Barbie and now Gene. I think that she is a beautiful doll. I am part of the Gene ring. My web site is Juliet. I now make fashions for Gene and Barbie as a hobby although I try to sell them. I read the forum everyday and enjoy most of the comments. I am really impressed with doll collectors. They are all so nice. I love the different Web Pages and I do buy from other designers.
Hello, my name is Katie. I'm seven years old. I have Blue Goddess Gene and the outfits Crimson Sun, El Morroco, and my mom's extra Red Venus. My favorite outfit of my own is the Blue Goddess dress. My favorite of all is Tango. Mom let me dress my Gene in Tango and she looks beautiful. The doll I would like next is Bird of Paradise. I like her because she looks beautiful. I like Gene because she looks like she would be a nice person if she was real. I have designed and sewed a dress for Gene and want to do lots more! I think they should make a red-and-blue plaid dress with long puffy sleeves ruffled at the hands and a tall neck with a ruffle and a long skirt but not all the way to the floor. And it would have a red vest with 3 buttons and it would be called "Farmer's Bride". I think they should make some different kinds of Gene doll, like a black Gene or a friend for Gene. I think there should be friends for Gene that are famous people, like Judy Garland and Shirley Temple, who I like to watch. That's all!
My name is Cyn. I'm from sunny California and I've crossed over from Barbie to Gene collecting this past year. I still collect vintage Barbie but have given space for new releases over to Gene instead. So far my Gene family is only 5 members big but we're expecting our new addition any day. I'm not creative enough to design or customize my own doll fashions or makeup yet but I'm listening to everyone's tips and expect that before long I'll be dabbling in that too. So, what's everyone else up to?
My name's Robin (Katie's mom) and we live in the Kansas City metro area. I began collecting Gene in 1995, when I was mesmerized by the very first two-page ads in a doll magazine I picked up. Two of my long-time fascinations have been Fashion History and the Golden Age of Hollywood, so Mel couldn't have snared me any faster if he'd showed up on my doorstep in person! I like to sew and do all kinds of crafts so I enjoy making clothes and accessories for my dolls. And I'm pretty good on this computer and have made some tiny books, magazines and fan mail for them. I even made a Gene-sized scrapbook with pages full of clippings pasted in. Mel signed it for me at the Rosemont Expo in 1997. What a guy!
Hi, my name is Pam. I live in Western New York, not far from Buffalo, the famous blizzard city. I am 30 years old and have enjoyed collecting and playing with dolls all my life. It is so wonderful to know that I am not alone. I think my family thinks I'm a little crazy now with my recent obsession with Gene. I just discovered Gene in June and I have 3 dolls now (IC, HHH & OTA) and several costumes. I enjoy making little accessories for Gene. Here's one to try if you haven't already: cut a picture of Gene (preferably B&W, as that was most common in her time) out of a magazine and stick it in a small frame, the little tiny ones that you can buy for a dollar or so. Then put in on her dressing table, credenza, etc. for a framed portrait. She loves to display photos of herself - she's a true star!
I am a former foreign language teacher, now presently an administrative officer at a University and a free-lance artist, my first love. I am new to Gene but have had an interest in the 40's and 50's film stars and their movies and fashions for some time now. My interest in Gene, especially Pin-UP, probably comes from the fact that she reminds me of my mother's time. Along with this emotional attachment, I enjoy Gene's beauty and what she represents. After having one though, I added another, Blue Goddess. I have come to appreciate the quality with which Gene is made and the attention to detail in the clothing. I also design my own dolls and their clothes, but many of todays dolls interest me. It is just an extension of my interest in portraiture. For me personally, just the fact that Gene was "different" and unique from other fashion dolls reawakened something in me that was similar to what I felt the first time I saw "Barbie" in 1960.
My name is Vicki. I bought my first Gene (waited 9 months for RV) right after seeing the article about her in 1995. I have the following Genes: (2) RV, Monaco, Premiere, PU, NAV, KD, Destiny, OTA, CdC, WH, BG, SS, BoP, MR. I have all outfits except Cameo, Smart Set & Love After Hours. I have have ordered all LE's for this year and also plan on getting Incognito and HHH. I have a lot of designs and jewelry from online designers. I have recently dusted off my sewing machine to try and do some of my own designs for Gene. I am an interior decorator and live in the Midwest. Prior to my career change I was a computer programmer. I still do consulting and web page design. I have 2 cats, Blackie and Stash, and 3 ponds full of goldfish, Japanese koi and golden orfes. I collect teapots, demitasse spoons, jewelry, blue glass, Snow Village, some Barbies, and elephants. I love Gene because she reminds me of old movies. Her clothes are so detailed and she brings out the creative side of so many people. I hope to begin designing and (with my husband's help) building some Art Deco furniture for Gene this winter.
